Humble Lou simply 'Can't see it'....
Martinborough, born and bred, Louise remained here until she turned 15yrs of age. She was born at the then known Martinborough Hospital which is now a nursing home for the elderly.
Her Father, Bruce Henderson is a well known builder and local, for years. Bruce, when leaving home as a young man, rented one of the rooms at The Martinborough Hotel, as he trained for his building apprenticeship.
At the age of 15yrs, Louise left with her parents to reside at Riversdale Beach. Over the years, her family moved back to Martinborough.
Like many who grew up here in Martinborough, Louise returned from her OE to visit family here, and remained, after securing an office assistant position at Murdoch James.
Extensive travel has played a major part in Louise's life.
It began when she was 18yrs old. Australia was her first trip, then a 14 night Fijian Island Ship Cruise.
From there, Lou travelled Perth, Asia, including backpacking Bali, Indonesia and Thailand.
Once Lou hit London, she remained there for a couple of years, visitng Amsterdam (naturally!), Scotland & Ireland. London was a highlight for Lou, due to the nightlife...who can argue!
Upon return from her OE, Louise resided in Wellington, where she worked as a 'live in' caregiver for an elderly couple for 2 yrs, then relocated to the Gold Coast for a year, before settling in Martinborough permanently.
Drawn to music & beat, it was a natural progression that dance would play an important part in her life.
Learning Ballet & Jazz from the age of 5yrs, then onto the local marching team at age 11-13yrs.
Lou has recently rekindled her passion for sport. As a teenager, she loved netball, hockey & even joined the Indoor Bowling Club as a teenager.
Hockey, is the sport she has chosen to revisit. Part of the local social women's team, here in Martinborough, Lou confesses to loving it, and the social aspect. Like Madonna, confession came easy, as Lou disclosed her being unable to walk for a week, after her first game with the team! 20yrs had passed since her last game, so I'm thinking....Well done Lou!
Whether playing or watching sport...Lou loves it all! Especially rugby. (It's in the blood!)
Though Lou never quite got on the 'stage' like her twin Madonna did, being a groupie was first nature. A lover of music, especially all NZ grass roots music, & reggae.
In fact, this is where the love story begins! The couple became acquainted as friends, due to the band "Local Motion" (THE ever popular & infamous local band of Martinborough), and friends of Lou's who played in it. The rest is history.
Daniel Phillips - Lou's partner and local singer musician in Martinborough |
The most romantic surprise gift, Daniel has given Lou, is their beautiful wee girl Aroha Tahi (translated= One Love). Aroha will be turning 5yrs of age this year. What a cutie!
Aroha, in Louise's own words, is the BEST thing that has ever happened to her. She laughs at the fact she was too busy 'living' life and had semi purposely side stepped the 'having babies' stage in her life.
Lou loves Asian food especially Chinese & Thai...her most favourite cuisine is 'good ole fashioned Kiwi food'...good on ya Lou!
She admits that Daniel is a great cook, and does the bulk of the cooking at home (in between practicing drums & guitar)... However, he has never and will NEVER prepare a dish of Tripe... Blllllleeerrrrrrrrrrrrrk!
Fond memories of her caregiving days, where Tripe was a once a week request from the lovely elderly couple she took care of.
Louise recommends the Pork Loin dish from the bistro menu, and the 'Fish & Chips' from the Bar Menu.
It has been a true delight, getting to know Lou since meeting her. Always a bright smile, and helpful manner. So very cruisy, and fun to be around...I look forward to being a 'groupie' with Lou, when the band is playing again!
Thank your for your time, and sharing a little about you, and those who mean the world to you.
